Karen Sim
Karen Sim is an independent artist and illustrator from Vancouver Island, with a background in children’s book illustration, fine art, English literature, music performance (multi genre violinist and vocalist), and outdoor adventuring. Karen draws her artistic inspiration from a wide array of subjects and disciplines, from psychology, biology, and history, to folklore, literary theory, and music.
And there’s always room for a little humour too...
Karen’s current creative project deals with illustrating the humanity within the monstrous: finding empathy with monsters by acknowledging the human fears, traumas, and other emotions that they personify and represent.
Karen shares her wee Nanaimo home with her photographer husband, a feisty German Shepherd, a grumpy ball python, and a growing assortment of houseplants.
